Myopia Management FAQs

What is myopia management?

Myopia management uses certain treatments and technologies to slow or even halt your child's myopia progression. Our myopia control program in Inner West Side is unique as we have the latest technology and experience to ensure your child's vision remains stable and healthy for years to come.

Is myopia management necessary?

Myopia is more than just poor vision. Childhood myopia raises the risk of developing sight-threatening eye diseases later in life, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts. Speak to your eye doctor about the best ways to minimize your child’s risk.

At what age does myopia (nearsightedness) usually start?

Myopia can begin as early as 6 and will usually progress until roughly age 20. The longer it progresses, and the higher the prescription, the greater your child’s risk of sight-threatening eye conditions later in life.

When should my child start myopia management?

For optimal results, myopia management should be started as soon as possible. That said, myopia control can help children and teens of all ages.

I can't say enough wonderful things about our experience at Hill Country Vision Center this morning.... My mom had an ugly style and warm compresses just weren't doing the trick. Thankfully there was availability to be seen this morning. Titia, the technician that got my mom ready to see the doctor was so kind and patient as she gathered all the needed info. Dr Aguilera went above and beyond, utilizing available tools and adapting his exam to ensure that my mom sat comfortably in her wheelchair. We were educated about her diagnosis, treatment, and preventative measures, and prescribed medication. If you are looking for an optometry office who is thorough amd who cares about their patients, look no further.

Experienced a very short wait time in the lobby. Facility was clean. Staff was courteous and attenti... ve. I was a bit nervous, however the technician that assisted me with my eye pictures was very encouraging, which helped me to relax. Dr. Ward explained my eye diagnosis thoroughly and answered all my questions. My family has been coming here for over 30 years. It’s a good place for all your family eye care.
